What I've been up to
I'm Rhys, I thrive at the intersection of hardware and software and always keeps the entire system in mind whether I'm architecting, designing, or making a tweak to something that is already in motion. With over 6 years of industry experience, I've worked with high integrity avionics, ambitious passion projects, and educational material to spread genuine understanding instead - not just copy pasting solutions
My background began with back-end web system design which gradually pulled me closer and closer to
the bare metal, where I found my passion for full-stack embedded development. From the device
selection and system architecting, to schematic design, routing with signal integrity in mind, firmware development, and the supporting application-level software - I enjoy every stage of the process.
I can't say I have a "go-to" platform; I tend to use - I like to treat each scenario as a
unique problem that deserves its own tailored solution to fit the needs.
My ethos is simply to ensure efficiency by understanding. Drilling down into lower and lower layers of abstraction unlocks deeper control, better performance, and an overall better product. Great engineering doesn't come from stacking libraries or throwing increasingly more powerful hardware at the problem - It comes from knowing the tools you are working with, and making everything count.
That said, I am not closed-minded in my practises. Abstraction layers and accessibility are also essential for a properly working system for even the most complex of systems, especially when it enables people to harness powerful technology more effectively. Everyone should be able to get the best from the computing power they have, no matter the application.
HS Fusion has given me the opportunity to share my skill set and collaborate on exciting projects, with others who share the same curiosity and drive.
If you've got an idea that is worth building, let's work together to make it a reality!
